"Sonic Gifts that break down barriers...!"
On 23 February, Garth Rennie at Cjam FM in Canada gave another live airing to the playlist of sonic cross-cultural Exchanges - this time, the entire collection as it now stands went on-air. As always in his Soundscape-Rhythms Show, Garth presents the featured tracks cushioned in his live on-air remixes; often, as he says, having five or more signal running at one time...
He writes: "Some woman in Detroit called in asking for the playlist then emailed saying she'd never heard stuff like that... The Detroit connection / prospect always exciting to me. Even though it is across the water [i.e. US] at the end of my street [i.e. Canada] still feels a world apart in some ways [... like across the Zambezi... ?! rcd]. "Zambezi Women" and Remix Artists are creating gifts that break down barriers. This much I know"
The area Windsor/ Detroit has a large African community of its own and Garth has often featured the recordings of collective audio radio projects from the continent; some of those are reappearing here in the background.
At the beginning of the show (ca.7') stands a remix by Valerie Vivancos from the 2006 "Street Writings" project. Valerie, Alan Dunn, James Young, Charles Hayward and radio continental drift were contributing drop-in workshops, radio shows at Resonance fm and remixes to the project with vulnerably-housed people in London's East End.
The playlist of remixes begins from about 10' into the broadcast:

Radio Producers and all listeners are warmly invited to continue the correspondence by using the Remixes in broadcasts, sound- and radio pieces, or perhaps in a sound track for a film, and so on...
Warmest thanks to Garth for amplifying the Sonic cross-cultural exchanges of Women Artists in Zambia and Zimbabwe and their "global correspondents" to the Windsor/ Detroit communities - and to all online listeners.
